For the second time in a row, both boys and girls teams are sectional champions!!!
We are always encouraging kids to try new events and get out of their comfort zone, and as coaches we like to practice what we preach. I was put in charge as the “meet director” for the entire meet, and I cannot thank all of the parents enough for helping us keep things running smoothly. Heidi Pfaff, Mary Franklin and Mark Young made all of the awards possible and allowed me to actually coach in the meet instead of watch from the press box. Thank you SO much for all of the help.
The meet started out with a heavy downpour, but we have practiced in some poor weather before and I think that gave the kids a layer of armor that some of the other teams may not have had. On the track, Julia snuck in a surprise 5th place in the 100H. The girls 4x8 ran a tough race, but Fillmore managed to hang on to their lead from wire to wire. Alivia ran an 8 second PR splitting 2:47, NV ran a PR of 2:45, Naomi came back from sickness to run a 2:51, and Jenna threw down a very solid 2:36. The girls are on the bubble to make state qualifiers if 3 other teams drop - fingers crossed! The boys followed up with a commanding win, leading wire to wire and locking in their state qualifier spot.
In the sprints, Riley managed to improve his seed by placing 3rd in the 100m and 2nd in the 200m, but the surprise of the day was the boys 4x100m taking the win! They came in ranked 4th, and the addition of Alex gave the boys exactly what the needed. The girls 4x100m ran a season best, placed 4th and wasn’t far off their best performance from last year (a relay that boasted Selena and Chloee, both of which ran well under 14 seconds for the 100m).
In the distance events, Lizzie and Em managed a 1-2 punch in the steeple after a late scratch from Maddie of Avoca. They dominated the event with composure. Lizzie came back quickly to race the 1500m with Jenna and Paige. Jenna, Lizzie and Paige went 1-2-4 to score 22 points and launch the girls into first as a team. The boys steeple was led by Pierce, Salim and Jacob in a 1-4-5 which saw Salim bounce back from an early fall and run tough to score for the team. The 1600m had a surprise finish from Joey of Wheatland - he closed in about 61 seconds to take the win, but Cam, Braydon and Ibra finished 2-3-4 to put up 18 more points and gain the lead for the boys.
The 400H had an interesting shake up of seeds as Mackenzie displaced all but 3 runners from the slow heat! Chloe, Kenz and Julia went 3-4-5 and made up points that we had not anticipated.
The 800m proved to be fruitful as well with Jenna, Naomi and Nema finishing 2-4, and Pierce, Braydon and Ibra taking 1-3-4. The distance squad came back strong in the 3000 and 3200. Lizzie, Em, NV, Bryn, Paige and Jacey ran strong to take 2-4-5-7-8-9. We rested Salim in the 3200 after his fall, but Pierce, Ibra and Stu got after it placing 1-2-8.
In the field, Caitlyn and Graysen took 5th and 6th in shot and Graysen and Jacey took 4th and 6th in disc. Caitlyn and Jacey were not projected to score, so they did an excellent job! Caitlyn followed it up with a 5th place finish in the high jump. The duo of Mo and Hope went 1-2 in the pole vault, while Kaleb came back from illness to finish 6th. Andrew did some serious damage in the jumps placing 2nd, 2nd and 3rd (22 points total) in the long jump, high jump and triple jump. Daniel competed well and placed 3rd in the discus.
In the pent, Anna, Sara and Shannon all scored, finishing 2-3-6 while Cam and Rayhan had a nice showing to place 5th and 6th.
The day ended with the 4x400m and some great splits by the girls to run a season best of 4:39. Naomi ran a 1:13, Grace ran 1:10, Julia ran 1:09 and Jenna closed it out with a 1:05. They are a bubble team to make state qualifiers and will know by Wednesday afternoon if they qualify. The boys had an excellent performance as well with Braydon, Pierce, Cam and Riley splitting 58, 53, 57 and 55 to sweep all of the relays.
We are so proud of the resilient efforts of both teams and battling through sickness, injury and weather to win by a huge margin. The girls won 145 to 62 over Marion and the boys won 148 to 93 over Wheatland-Chili. Congratulations to both squads!
Looking at the week ahead the following athletes will still be practicing in preparation for state qualifiers:
Boys: Pierce, Ibra, Salim, Braydon, Cameron, Andrew, Riley, Alex, Cam K, Jacob, Johnny and Daniel.
Girls: Jenna, Lizzie, NyVeah, Naomi, Alivia, Bryn, Grace, Kenz, Julia, Hope, Chloe, Mo, Georgia and Anna.

Counties
The county meet kicked off our championship season as the divisional meet was cancelled due to weather. It was hard fought, but the boys muscled out a win over Canisteo and the girls finished 2nd, just ahead of a well rounded Addison squad. On both sides, Canisteo had plenty of depth in the field events, but the boys distance team managed to put up an incredible amount of points. The highlight was a tactical 1600m race in which Cam, Braydon, Salim and Ibra controlled the pace and made it a sit and kick finish. They boxed the rest of the field in and unleashed a furious kick with 1 lap to go. Tighe from Alfred Almond was the only one to respond, but by the time he started kicking it was a bit too late as the boys went 1-4 to secure 28 total points. The story was the same in the 800m, as well as the 3200m and steeple that saw a 1,-2-3 finish, 1-2 finish and 1-2-4-6 finish respectively. Riley was our lone sprinter to score points and Daniel, Drew, Nick and the pent duo of Rayhan and Cameron K picked up some points in the field.
The girls were led by a near school record 1500m and 1st place 800m by Jenna and an excellent win by Lizzie in steeple and 3000m. Mo bounced back from injury to vault 8 feet and finish 3rd, Em placed 4th in steeple, NV and Paige took 5-6 in the 1500, Naomi finished 5th in the 800m, and placed 3rd in shot and 6th in disc (unbelievable for an 8th grader!). Anna had an amazing pent which led her to 1st place and huge personal best in the event. Alivia showed strong running over the 800m in her pent which showed us coaches what she is capable of in the mid distance races. Chloe and Julia put up points in the hurdles, Sara had a great showing and is geared up for an excellent pent and Caitlyn had a surprise 2nd in the high jump. There were many more excellent performances, but simply put it was an amazing day on the whole and we couldn’t be more proud. Congratulations!

Regular Season
The regular season came to a close last Friday night at Victor. Quite a bit has happened since the last post, so let’s jump right in.
League meets:
The girls ended up 6-1 with their only loss to Canisteo while the boys ended up 5-2, losing only to Addison and Canisteo. It was a great regular season, and the teams fought hard at both invites and league meets. Some of the highlights are listed below.
There have been 41 top 10 all time marks posted this season between the boys and girls, including a new school record in the 1600m by Pierce in 4:26.08. The girls and boys 4x8s lit it up at Hilton running class B5 leading times. Jenna was 3 seconds off the school record in the 1500 and Lizzie posted the 5th best time in school history. Lizzie also ran a top 3 steeple time and is leading the class.
In the sprints, hurdles and jumps we have had solid performances from Anna, Georgia, Julia, Chloe, Alivia, Caitlyn, Drew, and Riley. Some of the young kids are starting to shine as Cam Kernan ran a great 110HH and is ranked 5th for B5 in the pent. Unfortunately Zach’s season ended prematurely, but he had a lot of momentum building when he hurt himself.
The boys and girls distance teams are the talk of the town, with both projected to score a MASSIVE amount of points at sectionals. The girls’ distance team is projected to score 66 points while the boys are projected to score 108 points. On the county level the boys have a slight lead on Canisteo while the girls are projected to finish 2nd. The divisional meet was cancelled due to weather, but we will continue forward and enter all of our divisional entries into counties. It should be an exciting night and we are looking forward to some fast times in the beautiful weather!

Rust = busted
The teams seasons are underway and the momentum is beginning to build.
Modified Meet #1 and 2:
Skye, Julianna, Mason, Aubrie and Carmen made their debut in record breaking fashion. Carmen placed 5th on the all time list in the 100m, Mason is now 2nd for shot put and 3rd for discus, Aubrie is 2nd for the 55 hurdles, Skye is 3rd in the long jump and 200m, and the girls 4x100m of Skye, Julianna, Lily and Carmen are now 3rd! Ibra and Graysen set modified records in their first meet in the 400m and discus, a great way to start and end their modified seasons as they will move up to varsity. I will update all of the record lists in the week to come - I am reformatting and moving the lists around a bit, so it may take more time than expected.
Varsity vs. AA & CS:
The boys and girls both opened the season at 2-0 against AA and CS, with scores of 88-50 and 99-11 for the boys, and 112-16 and 114-16 for the girls. Kaleb posted a 12 inch PR in the pole vault, Julia ran a PR in the 100 hurdles, Johnny and Stu ran PRs in the 1600m, Yasmin posted a PR in the 1500m, Mackenzie ran a PR in the 400m, Braydon ran a PR in the 400m, Pierce ran a PR in the 400H and class B5 leading time, Jenna ran a PR in the 200m, Jacey ran a big PR in the 3000m, Daniel and Nick both threw PRs in the shot, with Nick also hitting a PR in the discus.
All of our new athletes posted solid opening performances, dozens of sectional qualifying performances and new class B5 leading performances. It was a very solid start to the season!
Webster Invite:
For many of our athletes, this was the biggest and most competitive meet they have ever been to. Our philosophy for early season has been to focus on the day to day improvement and keep moving forward. Without a doubt we were humbled a bit by some of the class A1 and A2 schools, but on the whole the day saw more sectional qualifying performances and personal bests despite a cold, windy day (thanks, Lake Ontario).
Alivia and Anna did a great job in the pent to place 5th and 6th overall. They started with big PRs in the hurdles, and finished with great runs in the 800m. Both posted PRs in the long jump as well. Jacey and Em did a great job in their debut steeple, while Johnny ran a 1:30 PR and Pierce took 2nd overall. Lizzie nearly matched her 1500m PR in a stacked field while Bryn and NyVeah both ran 19 second PRs in the 3000m. Chloe matched her PR in the high jump and Emma launched a 3 foot PR in the triple jump. Naomi and Nema both ran PRs for the 400m as well as Jacob for the boys. Mackenzie, Ibra, Alivia, Anna, and Paige all ran PRs in the 800m. Hope ran a PR in the 200m and the 4x400m (1:14), joined by a PR from Shannon (1:14). Zach bounced back from injury to run a strong 200m PR, Ibra and Braydon ran tough in the 800m, and Stu ran a monster PR in the 3200m. All in all, it was a solid day. The team will look forward to competing at Bath twice this week!

Indoor Track -> Outdoor Track
With state qualifiers wrapping up, and outdoor track on the horizon, I figured it was time to post! For winter sports there has been success all around. The boys VB team took 2nd in the county tournament, cheerleading took 2nd at sectionals, Mo made states as an individual for skiing, and Pierce raced his way into the state meet for the 3200m. I am sure I am missing more accomplishments, and the basketball seasons are still underway. Wrestling had a nice turn out, and performed really well with a young squad.
For a school without indoor track, the team managed to throw down this winter. Pierce, Braydon, Salim, Cameron, Jenna, Lizzie, Nema, Alivia and NyVeah all qualified for sectionals individually. The boys finished 4th as a team, won the 4x8 and picked up major points from Pierce winning the 3200 and 1600. Cam picked up points in the 600, Bibo in the 1000 and Salim in the 3200. Jenna, NyVeah and Lizzie all picked up points in the 600, 3000 and 1000, respectively. The girls 4x8 finished 3rd and ran a nice time as well.
At state qualifiers, Pierce finished in a blazing 9:34 to place second and secure his spot this coming weekend at the state meet. It converts to a 9:28 on a banked track, so he has some serious potential to crack 9:30. The boys 4x8 placed 5th after being ranked last by 20 seconds! The splits were:
Braydon - 2:09.93
Cam - 2:11.70
Salim - 2:22.14
Pierce - 2:13.13
Jenna and Lizzie BATTLED in the 1000m and both walked away with a lifetime best, while Jenna won the heat and placed 7th overall. Both girls split 2:35 and 2:38 through 800m... a very promising sign for our outdoor relays.
The outdoor meet schedule is coming soon. Stay tuned for more updates!
